Everyone wants to feel confident about their smile, but it can be difficult to know exactly what you want to change to get the results that you’re looking for. Just think for a second. Imagine the smile of your dreams and describe it in detail. What are the things that make it so beautiful and perfect? There are all sorts of different traits that are seen as beautiful when it comes to teeth. Many people seek cosmetic dentistry in order to achieve them. Here are just some of the most desired smile-traits out there.

White Teeth

It is normal for teeth to become discolored over time, but this also something that many people are self-conscious of. Staining can occur as a result of aging, consuming pigmented beverages, and smoking. Fortunately, there is a solution. Teeth whitening and porcelain veneers are both used in order to reduce staining of the teeth so patients can feel more comfortable about showing off their smiles.

Healthy Gum Color

Gums that are healthy tend to have a firm, pink appearance. If you notice that your gum tissue is red, swollen, or even bloody whenever you brush and floss your teeth, this is a sign that you may have periodontal disease. This type of infection can be prevented easier by regular brushing, flossing, and seeing your dentist for cleanings and checkups.

Correct Bite

There are all sorts of different bite issues that can make it more difficult for you to enjoy some of your favorite foods. Overbites, crossbites, underbites, and open bites are not typically seen as cosmetically appealing. The good news is that bite issues can be corrected with orthodontic treatment, like Invisalign clear aligners.

Proportion of Gums to Teeth

Healthy gums support strong teeth, but many people feel like they have a smile that is a little bit too “gummy.” While this isn’t usually an oral health problem, it can take a toll on the confidence. Fortunately, there are cosmetic procedures out there, like gum contouring and crown lengthening, so that patients can have a ratio that they feel more confident with.

Correct Spacing of the Teeth

Teeth that are properly spaced apart just barely touch each other. If they are too close together, they appear overcrowded and if they are too far apart, there is the appearance of gaps. Both issues can be corrected with Invisalign. Smaller gaps between the teeth can also be hidden with the use of cosmetic bonding or porcelain veneers.

Having a beautiful smile can mean all sorts of things. Fortunately, if you don’t feel confident about your teeth, you have different options to make the changes you want to reach your smile goals. This way, you can feel great about yourself and the way you look!
